“I don't trust anyone who doesn't laugh.” – Maya Angelou
"A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done" – Dwight D. Eisenhower
I love a company with a sense of humor. The above quotes can apply to label business owners. Take Maya Angelou’s – label buyers need to trust the label manufacturer they are working with. Eisenhower believed that having a sense of humor is a key part of workplace culture.
While the label business is not necessarily a laughing matter, having a sense of humor about it goes a long way in putting both customers and employees at ease. Recently, I came across a few great examples – on both supplier and converter sides – of companies that, although they are doing serious work, are not taking themselves too seriously. And I think this is a good thing.
On April 1, I received a press release from EFI titled “Who Says Print Isn’t Sexy? EFI Acquires Exclusive Rights to 50 Shades of Grayscale for Advanced Print Applications.” It was April Fools Day, and the full release can be found here. Very funny. EFI, headed by CEO Guy Gecht, gets it. Gecht got many laughs at the expense of himself and Benny Landa during the company's annual EFI Connect users conference, held this past January.
The internet and social media platforms are also allowing companies to show that they are not afraid to both laugh and poke fun, while at the same time showing what are seriously capable of.
Another supplier, Label Traxx, recently took to YouTube to tell the story of when it might be time for a converter to modernize its approach to running label printing operations. Hysterical.
The Lauterbach Group, a label and packaging supplier that's launched a campaign showcasing its expertise in food-safe packaging, has a new video that made me LOL.
And another converter, The Label King, a company I had the pleasure of visiting in San Diego, CA, has a whole series of videos on its website as well as YouTube, that while being very funny, also serve as educational tools for its customers and prospects. Here's the "pilot," with company president Robert Parker appearing as his alter-ego, The Label King.
I know there are many more videos out there from label industry companies not afraid to have a laugh. Just another something to keep in mind when marketing your business.
