There is no label suitable for many of the NBA’s stars, but there can be exceptions. In this case, one of the league’s best has delved into the world of wine labeling.
Dwyane Wade, an All-Star for the Miami Heat, has launched his own wine label, which debuted in China. He introduced the wine at events in Shanghai and Beijing. More specifically, it is a 2012 Wade Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and exclusive to China.
Wade’s cabernet is not unique to the NBA, though. San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has his own line of Pinot Noir, as well as an above-ground cellar featuring over 3,000 bottles of wine. He is also a part owner of the Oregon-based A to Z Wineworks.
Much like the craft beer space, Wade’s wine labels would benefit from the short-run capabilities of digital printing. The wine is on a very limited release and not currently available in the US. As it grows in popularity and reach, more bottles will be produced and more labels will subsequently be printed.
As his quantities vary in the early going, digital would best serve the NBA star. Should the wine ever take off, he could find himself investing in more conventional processes like flexo.
