DuPont has filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop MacDermid Printing Solutions from engaging in what DuPont calls “continued infringement of patents” related to DuPont Cyrel FAST thermal technology.
The motion, filed in US federal court, seeks to stop sales of MacDermid’s LAVA thermal processing systems and equipment that are used to thermally develop or process flexographic printing plates, including products marketed by MacDermid under the names MLT and Magma.
DuPont’s FAST system, which was introduced several years before MacDermid’s LAVA, is a dry thermal technology for creation of flexographic printing plates.
In April of this year, DuPont filed a patent infringement lawsuit in US federal court against MacDermid. DuPont claims that MacDermid “has manufactured, used, offered for sale, and sold flexographic plates, including products marketed under the names Magma and MLT, which are covered by a DuPont patent related to thermal flexographic technology.” The suit also claims that MacDermid “has actively induced others to infringe on another DuPont patent through offers to sell, advertise and promote thermal flexographic printing systems.”
Paul Merkel, product manager at MacDermid, declined to comment, saying that the company does not discuss ongoing litigation in public.
DuPont is headquartered in Wilmington, DE, USA. MacDermid is in Atlanta, GA, USA.
