Plastic Suppliers Inc., of Columbus, OH, USA, is now part of the best-selling documentary “An Inconvenient Truth: A Global Warning”. The company’s EarthFirst PLA film is used to make the clear sleeve in which the DVD case is housed.
According to a company statement, “Plastic Suppliers’ philosophy of respecting, protecting and preserving the environment is echoed in this poignant documentary narrated by Al Gore. The unnerving motion picture illustrates the dire effects of global warming and how people can commit to reversing this destructive cycle by minimizing carbon dioxide emissions. Paramount Pictures produced the emotional documentary and capitalized on environmentally friendly packaging to fuse the picture’s message with action. Traditional thermoformed DVD cases were replaced by 100 percent post-consumer recycled cardboard jackets fitted in clear sleeves made from 1.6 mil EarthFirst PLA film.
EarthFirst PLA film is made with NatureWorks PLA. The resin is made from 100 percent field corn grown in the USA. The film is compostable, and its use is said to reduce consumption of gasoline and carbon dioxide emissions.
