The next generation of waterless offset printing from Codimag made its debut this week in Brussels. The Viva 420 is wider than its predecessor, the 340, and eliminates the standard multi-roller ink train common to offset printing machines.
The Viva 420 utilizes an Aniflo inking unit, containing only five cylinders: A sleeve anilox roll with temperature regulation to receive the ink via a doctor blade, a form roller with a rubber blanket, the plate cylinder, the blanket cylinder, and the impression cylinder. There are no inking keys because the ink layer is controlled by the anilox roll. Temperature settings on the anilox and the blanket modify the viscosity of the ink to allow density adjustments.
