FINAT plans to take the lead as world label association

FINAT, the Europe based self-adhesive label industry trade association, says it plans “to become the global authority for the sector and will work to encourage national associations to support that development.”

Celebrating its 50th anniversary at its Paris congress, the organization asked its members how they wanted it to develop in the next 50 years. The emphatic choice, according to FINAT President Jan Frederik Vink, was that the association should take the lead in the continued development of the industry worldwide.

Vink said the board wanted the clear views of its members as it shapes the organization in preparing for the future.

“We need a compass to choose the right direction,” says Vink. “Where do we want to be in the next 50 years? It is important that we get the right input.”

Faced with a choice of developing its activities into all forms of labeling, the packed congress hall voted to continue to “do what we do well” and develop its global expertise in the service of self-adhesive manufacturers. Members also decided that FINAT should be the driving force to help the industry cope with the growing environmental challenges that the future holds.

FINAT began in Europe 50 years ago, but its members now come from the world over. The strongest growth in the association’s membership reportedly is among converters from Turkey and India.
