Xeikon, ExxonMobil, Metro Label Group and Neil McDonough of FLEXcon were saluted at the fifth annual Label Industry Global Awards banquet, held Tuesday night at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, USA, site of the 2008 Labelexpo Americas. The event attracted more than 500 industry professionals.
Xeikon, a manufacturer of digital presses, was the recipient of the Label Industry Award for New Innovation, recognizing a pioneering supplier with fewer than 10 years of experience in the industry.
ExxonMobil received the Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation, recognizing its significant contribution to the development of the global label industry over a substantial period of time.
Metro Label Group, a Canadian converting company that was launched in 1974, received the Converter Award for Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility. The company’s headquarters in Toronto is one of the first LEED certified manufacturing facilities in Canada, and its subsidiary in California has both FSI and FSC certification.
The high point of the evening was the presentation of the R. Stanton Avery lifetime Achievement Award. This year’s winner is Neil McDonough, president of FLEXcon Company, a manufacturer of pressure sensitive films and adhesive products based in Spencer, MA, USA. Mike Fairley, chairman of the judging panel, commented: “Choosing the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award was a difficult choice this year, particularly because the judges were evaluating the profiles of nominees against a range of criteria. However, although all were worthy candidates, it was felt that Neil McDonough best exemplified the innovative, industry focused and global approach that has characterized the growth of pressure sensitive labels over many years. We congratulate him on this achievement.”
