HP Mile Inc., a medical label printing company based in Syracuse, NY, USA, has been recommended by its registrar for ISO 9001:2008 certification after implementing a new quality management system over the past year and successfully completing a comprehensive audit. The stringent controls involved with printing for the medical and pharmaceutical industries have propelled HP Mile’s undertaking of the ISO certification process.
The application of the ISO 9001:2008 standard enables HP Mile to improve its overall business processes, increasing printing efficiencies and label product quality while reducing waste. ISO certification also makes it possible to qualify to do business with new customers across the globe.
“Our employees have always been trained in cGMP and our stringent SOPs, which are ISO compliant. It was time to take the next step into certifying our overall quality management system as we expand our business. We are planning to move into a 20,000 square foot space where we will start with two dedicated lines and have the ability to add several more as needed,” says Mike Brady, president of HP Mile.
“This allows us to help control costs and reduce inventory,” Brady adds. “In fact, with one of our current customers, the line is set up inside of their pharmaceutical packaging facility and labels are produced working off of their production packaging schedule. That has eliminated the entire label inventory for that customer, and is very ‘green,' as there is no shipping required and packaging boxes are recycled and reused by HP Mile, rather than discarded.”
HP Mile currently operates 3 facilities in the Central New York area. Brady founded the company in 2002, capitalizing on over 50 years of his family’s combined experience in printing for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
