“Creating opportunities in the label and packaging business” was the title of a seminar held in late April at the Lecco, Italy, headquarters of Omet. The educational program took place in conjunction with the press manufacturer’s first Open House of 2010, which attracted more than 200 industry people from many countries. Joining Omet were its partners from other segments of the industry.
The seminar presented a study of the label and packaging market – figures, trends, developments – with an aim to define today’s challenges and what professional printers are facing in their everyday business. This was followed with an overview of the Omet press range, spotlighting equipment that solves problems: combination printing, total press control, automatic print register control, flexibility in substrates, and more. Also discussed was Omet service, including remote assistance and web cam live technical service.
The presentation concentrated on the X-Flex press for the label business, and the VaryFlex-F1 inline platform press designed for packaging printing on a wide range of substrates and with a choice of processes in combination. A new VaryFlex-F1 in an 850mm (33”) width was presented during the demo session as a competitor with CI presses and sheetfed carton presses. Also discussed were shrink sleeve and IML label printing, as well as converting and finishing opportunities.
