French converter Stratus Packaging has acquired two 430 mm wide Omega VSR inspection rewinders from AB Graphic International, supplied through its French subsidiary, AB Graphic Sarl. The acquisitions are part of a €10 million investment program by Stratus to increase production efficiency and reduce lead times.
The inspection rewinders are specified to handle a wide range of substrates and include clear on clear missing label detection, servo driven web tension control for thin and delicate substrates and razor and shear knife slitting.
“We already have three Digicon label converting lines from AB Graphic International installed at our Limoges facility, and have chosen to standardize our label inspection process with equipment from this reliable and well established company,” says Stratus owner Isidore Leiser. “It was important for us to have two VSR models with similar specifications. This gives us the ability to switch work from one machine to the other so we always have backup possibilities. We have been able to increase production speeds and can now offer customers even faster delivery times. In the face of rising energy costs and environmental pressures on packaging, we also decided to have both VSR models equipped with LED stroboscopes. These use less power and will help in reducing our carbon footprint.”
Stratus Group comprises three label printing facilities – in Limoges, Lyon and Lille – with 240 employees. The company supplies labels for industrial use and serves such markets as pharmaceutical, personal care, cosmetics, electronics, and beverage. Products include self-adhesive, in-mold, thermo-sensitive and blister pack labels, as well as security labels for tracking and logistics. Eighty percent of its production is for the home market; the remainder supplies Eastern and Western Europe and Africa.
