General Trade Mark Labelcraft sold to Kroger Packaging

May 16, 2011

GTM had been in business for the past 88 years.

The assets of General Trade Mark (GTM) Labelcraft, a narrow web converter in Staten Island, NY, USA, have been sold to Kroger Packaging, East Farmingdale, NY. GTM had been in business for 88 years, and for the past 48 under the ownership of Richard Capuozzo.

The GTM operation has been moved to Kroger’s plant, Capuozzo says, “and will continue to produce the specialty products we've always produced.” Kroger has retained some of the GTM staff, and Capuozzo notes that he has been successful in placing most other employees with label printers in the region.

“It's been a good run for GTM,” Capuozzo recalls. “We've used almost every printing process possible, including offset, gravure, flexography, letterpress, rotary screen, and even some digital. We manufactured the earliest rotary dies for Mark Andy and built our own equipment to produce hot iron transfers. We also etched our own gravure cylinders and made our own rotary screen cylinders.

“For me it's been a fulfilling and exciting time, but now it's time to do some other things,” he says.

Kroger Packaging, based in Long Island, specializes in high end cosmetic labels. The company has been in business for more than 50 years, and has flexo, letterpress and offset capabilities.
