The annual Phoenix Challenge Foundation Golf Tournament, which raises funds to support flexo in education, will be held July 27 at Birkdale Golf Club, Huntersville, NC, USA. It is a Captain's Choice four-man scramble with prizes including chances for a new car, vacation trips, cash, and door prizes. Opportunities are available to support the program by becoming platinum, gold and silver sponsors, as well as individual player and team openings. A few major event sponsors and more than 50 golfers have already signed up, renewing their commitment to providing scholarships and building awareness of flexo in education.
The 2011 golf tournament kicks off the 2012 programs, which will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Phoenix Challenge Foundation. “The foundation has grown year over year and is a thriving organization of dedicated professionals aimed at ensuring the viability of our industry through teaching practical flexo application, knowledge competitions and furthering education through scholarships and career development,” says Bettylyn Krafft, foundation chairman. “It is the only one of its kind in North America.”
The foundation exists solely through donations made by industry supporters and businesses with a primary purpose of building flexography awareness and education throughout North America. Sponsoring businesses and organizations have access to a variety of opportunities that deliver a variety of marketing and recognition.

The Phoenix Challenge Foundation is an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization of industry professionals dedicated to the recruitment and development of the future workforce for flexography.Each year flexo students and teachers from throughout the U.S. and Canada are invited to the Phoenix Challenge Competitions. The High School event is a two and half-day skill-based competition with hands-on and comprehension testing in operating a flexo press, prepress, plate-making, and overall flexo knowledge. Winners are eligible for scholarships funded by the Phoenix Challenge Foundation. To date, $30,000 in scholarships has been awarded to encourage students to pursue further education and a career in flexography.The Phoenix Challenge College Competition is a school year long event in which an industry problem is presented to the students and requires both market and manufacturing research. Students then present to a panel of industry judges which grade them in four different categories research, concept, graphics and execution.
