3S Simons Security Systems GmbH has received the bronze award in the packaging category at this year's PrintStars 2012 awards. The company received the award for its security labels for counterfeit-proof protection, which 3S developed for the testing equipment manufacturer INGUN on the basis of 3S micro color codes SECUTAG. The annual Innovation Award of the German Printing Industry honors the best printing products.
INGUN GmbH uses 3S security labels to secure the packaging of its contact pins, which are used for testing circuit boards for mobile phone and other applications. When it comes to counterfeit protection, it relies on the micro color code technology SECUTAG by 3S. Special closure seals including all technical data and the micro color code particles are affixed crosswise over all four sides of the packaging. The contact pins are thus unambiguously identifiable as originals, unauthorized opening of the boxes would be detected immediately. The labeling process was integrated into the production and packaging procedure without process changes.
This year, the organizers of PrintStars received 396 applications for products in 16 categories and for eight special prizes, a lot more than in the past eight years. More than 900 print shops, agencies, photo studios, publishers, prepress providers and print finishing companies as well as print buyers with headquarters or branch offices in Germany and German vocational and technical schools participated in the competition. The Award Ceremony, which was part of the "PrintNight" event, took place in Stuttgart, at the Liederhalle Culture and Congress Centre, on October 9, 2012.
