FTA’s annual Excellence in Flexography Awards competition regularly showcases the best print work from an industry that is thriving, continually evolving and always in-tune with innovation. Each year, teams of judges evaluate an assortment of labels, pouches, shrink sleeves, folding cartons, corrugated boxes, linerboard containers, envelopes, napkins, balloons, cups, plates and flexibles to determine which takes home a gold, silver, bronze or the coveted Best of Show designation. Print samples are evaluated for high-quality graphics, tight registrations, extensive tonal ranges, color that is crisp, and type that is solid, just to name a few judging considerations.
“It’s very rewarding to see many winning entries using plates imaged on an ESKO CDI and receiving Best of Shows for a variety of categories—from corrugated to labels. It shows that our imaging devices can be used successfully in virtually any facility that requires high quality flexo,” explains Ian Hole, Esko VP, market development. “Also, many of the entries used our HD Flexo or Full HD Flexo imaging technology, extending printable dots as well as expanding the printable gamut.”
The four Best of Show Entrants who used plates imaged from Esko CDIs included:
- Marvaco Oy Ltd. (Finland), who entered and won the Best of Show award with its Falcon BBQ Wrapper in the category of Mid Web, using Full HD Flexo;
- RockTenn, (Jacksonville, FL) who received its Best of Show award in the category of Preprinted Linerboard for its entry, Hartz Multi Cat Litter;
- Cellotape-Landmark, (Fremont, CA) who received a Best of Show for its Narrow Web entry with Ron Teeguarden's Dragon Herbs Tonic Alchemy Label;
- Lewisburg Container Co., (Lewisburg, OH) whose Boulevard Brewing Co. Pale Ale Box received a Best of Show for Combined Corrugated.
