Reid Label and Nameplate have announced the acquisition of Vermont-based New England Label, formerly-owned by Willington Nameplate, of Stafford Springs, CT, effective Feb 6, 2015.
Reid’s acquisition of the 20-year old flexographic label printer strengthens Reid’s presence in Northern New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and the Southern Canadian label markets. The blending of Reid’s digital capabilities will allow current and future New England Label customers access to quick-turn, high quality labels, inventory management, and UL and CSA-approved silkscreen and digital nameplates.
“We are thrilled to announce the second major acquisition in our company’s history,” says Steve Dunlevy, Reid’s president and CEO. “Our growth plan has been through a mixture of organic sales and external acquisitions and we will continue to actively pursue these types of transactions & synergistic partnerships over the coming years." In October 2002, Dunlevy acquired Connecticut-based Package Systems and moved its entire operation into Reid’s 65,000 square foot facility in Andover, MA.
The New England Label Group, a management company, has been formed to facilitate future acquisitions and manage the individual entities. Key personnel involved in Reid’s future growth are Steve’s two children, Kara and Ryan Dunlevy.
“The group is very excited about growth plans and I am personally excited to have both my daughter and son on board to help take our organization to the next level. Some of my industry peers have a challenge with succession planning and I want to encourage them to discuss possible partnerships with our organization as they start to think about retirement,” adds Dunlevy.
In the case of New England Label, it wasn’t so much about succession planning, but allowing Willington to focus on what they do best. “Willington Nameplate’s main business is manufacturing permanent labeling solutions,” explains Mike Goepfert, Willington’s CEO. “While looking at our New England Label business, we recognized it wasn’t part of our core markets or customers. Our focus on manufacturing, OEM, automotive, aerospace and Department of Defense is much different than the retail and consumable label markets that New England Label and Reid serves, so it made sense for us to work with Reid on this acquisition.”
Reid Associates was established in 1972 and was sold to current CEO and President Stephen Dunlevy in 1993. Reid maintains offices and representation in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and a manufacturing hub in Andover, MA. With customers worldwide, Reid's products can be found on pharmaceutical, nutritional, medical, and food & beverage products.
