Computype, a global provider of barcode and labeling solutions, has announced that Todd Roach has been named vice president of Innovation. As both co-owner of the business and former leader of internal operations, Roach looks to bring passion and unique perspective to this new strategic role.
Having spent the last 10 years committed to improving and customizing Computype’s global manufacturing capabilities, Roach’s extracurriculars typically involved exploring new technologies and mining talent, so transitioning to a role completely dedicated to innovation was a natural shift. This new function at Computype will consist of two primary facets: Technologies and people. Through recruitment efforts, training and community involvement, Computype says that it is dedicated to educating a diverse group of next generation leaders in the print technology industry. “It’s critical that we, as industry experts, spread the message to the younger generation that printing is here to stay,” says Roach. “It is through community and academic partnership programs that we will ensure the print industry thrives for years to come.”
Even before stepping into his new role, Roach experienced firsthand that recruiting both trained and skilled resources to step into print-press operator roles was no easy task. This observation led to his involvement in a joint initiative with AWT Labels and Packaging to create the MN-based nonprofit corporation known as Flexographic Tech. The purpose of the group is to educate students that have an interest in becoming flexographic print operators, which in turn, feeds the local community of print companies. “Computype is built to last, and through people, we’ll ensure that our legacy goes the distance,” explains Roach.
In addition to community recruitment and training efforts, Roach will be responsible for exploring innovative technologies. Having long been a trusted supplier of identification solutions and barcode technology, Computype is always looking ahead to what new equipment, technology or capability will deliver greater value both internally and for its global customer base.
“This is a really exciting investment in the future of Computype,” says CEO Charlie Westling. “This new role speaks to Todd’s DNA; he has an undeniable passion for people, emerging technologies and the longevity of our industry, and it’s exciting for both him and Computype that he’ll now be able to pursue that passion on a full-time basis.”
