Sixty professionals from the US label industry – manufacturers and suppliers from all over the country – convened recently at the 6th Annual FLAG Members Meeting in Bedford, Amherst and Milford, NH.
The acronym FLAG stands for Flexo Label Advantage Group, and is, among other things, a buyers group connecting vendors and manufacturers for mutual benefit. Touted as one of “the most exciting associations in the label industry,” FLAG has grown from about 15 participants to more than 60 in 2016, and includes some of the biggest names in the label printing industry.
A highlight of the meeting was the tour of Amherst Label, a FLAG member company and also a TLMI LIFE-certified label manufacturer. John McKay, president and founder of FLAG, comments, “Many thanks to Nick Calvetti, president of Amherst Label, and his whole team for opening up his company to facilitate this year’s FLAG Member Tour. This is an opportunity unlike any other in our industry and we thank Nick for that.”
Meeting attendees toured the entire Amherst Label facility and were given a detailed explanation of each department. "We also met with key management from Amherst, who discussed all kinds of topics regarding the business' history and major milestones, as well as the company culture and employee programs," McKay says.
The facilty tour included demonstrations of the Amherst’s recently installed Domino N610i digital inkjet press with a CEI Boss finisher. Installed in October, the press impressed with its print quality, speed and overall capabilties. Amherst Label’s flexo presses were also shown in production mode during the tour, including an 18-inch Propheteer, a 10-inch Propheteer, and a 13-inch, 8-color Nilpeter press. Amherst Label’s silkscreen printing unit was another tour highlight, as participants saw a “Life in NH” label produced by hand.
A win/win for members and vendor partners is the goal of the FLAG organization and its events. By all accounts the conference host and hospitality sites, Bedford Village Inn, and LaBelle Winery, delighted guests, many of whom are unfamiliar with the granite state’s hospitality.
