Pollard (U.S.) Limited is seeking a Vice President, Manufacturing for our production facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The Ypsilanti facility is a full production plant providing both printing and finishing services, as well as shipping/receiving, technical/maintenance, lab and pre-press.
The Vice President, Manufacturing oversees the day-to-day operations of the Ypsilanti plant and sets the strategic direction for achieving planned business results and is a key enabler of the company’s culture and core values. A primary focus of the position is to ensure that effective processes are in place to meet established targets related to safety, quality, productivity/cost, and on-time delivery, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and of the sharing of best-practices across the entire Pollard manufacturing group. Key Responsibilities:
- Together with the EVP Operations and department managers, establish annual targets and/or budgets based upon key performance indicators for safety, quality, productivity/cost, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- As a fundamental responsibility, ensure that employees are provided with a safe and healthy working environment.
- Ensure that effective processes and communication strategies are in place to meet the manufacturing and delivery targets and that appropriate resources are made available to achieve those aims.
- Identify operational performance gaps and ensure that effective strategies are developed and implemented to assure that targets are achieved: the primary approach to closing performance gaps is to employ structured problem-solving methodologies to expose the underlying contributors to poor performance, develop effective corrective actions and effectively implement/communicate those actions as needed throughout the organization.
- Conduct longer-term planning related to manufacturing capacities (equipment and staffing).
- Provide on-going and as-needed support to the sales group and others and assist in enhancing customer relationships through meetings with customers and visits to their sites as deemed appropriate.
- Maintain a general awareness of the various manufacturing technologies as well as emerging technologies that may provide improved capabilities.
- Develop the skills of employees, ensuring both career development and succession planning issues are addressed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters’ degree in an engineering or related discipline
- A minimum of 15 years’ manufacturing experience, 5 of which are at a senior level
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a large team and numerous departments
- Understanding of accounting fundamentals, with a keen awareness of business cost drivers
- Strong communication skills and able to present information with clarity, in writing and verbally
- Strong customer and quality focus
- Knowledge of progressive health and safety practices, business and management principles, lean manufacturing and structured problem solving methodologies
- Proficient in MS Word Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word and Access and knowledge of Adobe Acrobat
- Prior printing and converting experience in a high-security environment would be an asset
- Knowledge of lottery and familiarity with industry standard equipment and/or associated technical expertise is an asset
- Able to travel – domestic and international travel is required from time to time
