For Life Products, a manufacturer of home restoration products, has upgraded its packaging on the successful Rejuvenate line. With the help of Berlin Packaging’s Studio One Eleven team, the two companies managed to expand the 16 and 32oz SKUs, which are often seen in Home Depot and other retailers like Menards, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ace Hardware and Canadian Tire.
These household surface-cleaning items underwent an initial redesign in 2012, but the company needed help creating an effective label and package for a 128 oz value line. Jim Hampel, For Life Products COO, enlisted Studio One Eleven to make necessary adjustments for ergonomic factors while maintaining the same brand aesthetic.
In 2012, Studio One Eleven facilitated For Life Products’ redesign with 21 SKUs. The rebranding replaced disparate stock HDPE bottles with a custom flat-fronted bottle design, a new silver and purple color scheme, and a three-sided label with color coding, QR codes and new communication architecture to aid consumers in product selection. The Rejuvenate products can be used for flooring care, kitchen care, bathroom care and leather care.
“The customer needed a full rebrand of the line and packaging,” says Dana Myers, senior packaging consultant at Berlin Packaging. “We wanted to be a premium brand, and we needed to update the look and feel of the package to really stand out on the shelf. The customer’s sales tripled within the first year of the launch and have been growing at a fast rate ever since.”
The most recent change, however, presented several challenges. The goal was to apply the pressure sensitive, two-ply, three-sided wraparound label to the larger bottle without flagging or bubbling. Due to the collaboration between For Life Products and Berlin Packaging, the product was completed without any complications. As in 2012, Berlin Packaging engineered the visual and structural branding, and the company also provided the packaging components.
According to Myers, Studio One Eleven designed the package and Berlin secured the decorator. “We had specialized label equipment to assist with the three-sided label application,” she continues. “We used the expertise of our decorator to order the specialized equipment for the gallon to be decorated.”
According to For Life Products, the 128 oz value line has sold so well that it has opted to provide larger sizes in Floor Restorer and Tile & Grout Cleaner products, as well. The multiple value-size offerings are driving sales and providing opportunities for big box store placement.
“We have more placement in the market, and so far, the customers are liking the larger size,” adds Myers.
For Life Products are available in the United States and Canada, and the company has grown from a single floor restorer to a full line of over 14 home restoration products. The Rejuvenate product line launched in 1999 on QVC, and For Life Products has since expanded to include the following categories: Air Innovations, Pursfection, Pietra Italia, Smart Stop and Fast Brite.
Berlin Packaging is a distributor of rigid packaging including glass, metal, and plastic bottles, jars, cans and other containers. Studio One Eleven is the design branch of Berlin Packaging.
