Attending the meeting was Mark Cisternino, president of the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA). Cisternino spoke of the history of the Flexo in High School programs that were begun in the 1990s with an investment, as well as inspiration, by Harper Corporation. FTA’s involvement in the program, he said, gained momentum when the Tag & Label Manufacturers Institute joined the oversight effort a few years ago.
In addition to Baldaia, Cisternino, and Ron Harper, attendees were as follows: Tony Zeiss, president of Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC); Mark Estepp, chairman of the department of technology at Appalachian State University; Leigh Ayers, flexo instructor at South Mecklenburg High School; Jeff Stout, vice president for membership and education of Printing Industry of the Carolinas; Jack Kenny, editor of Label & Narrow Web magazine; Mary Hamrick, marketing director at Harper; Greg Gift, southwest regional coordinator for workforce development at the North Carolina Education Department; Sonya Long, marketing coordinator at Harper; Jim Chancey, director of career and technical education at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools; Deborah Ramsey, assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Philip O.
