Press makers get
the three-year itch
It is said that not all marriages are made in heaven, least of all among press manufacturers, it would seem. Citing a “diversification of strategic interests,” Mark Andy and MPS mutually agreed to call it a day on their three-year technology partnership. The former was responsible for the Dutch manufacturer’s series of EP flexo/screen presses outside of Europe. It specifically applies to the MA7000 model, although Mark Andy will continue to support customers in North America who have installed the equipment.
“With the acquisition of Comco in 2001, our future strategy is better served by focusing our global efforts on the Comco products,” said Greg Palm, Mark Andy’s VP sales & marketing. The move offers MPS the opportunity to focus on existing and newly developed products in areas outside Europe. MPS’s co-managing directors, Eric Hoendervangers and Bert van den Brink, said: “Due to our growth plans in Europe we felt a strong customer demand for globalization. MPS has started a business expansion program which includes sales and service worldwide.”
In a similar vein, GiDue, the fast-growing Italian manufacturer, has ended its three-year cooperation with the now-dormant Allied Gear & Machine, of St. Louis, MO. It was “amicably terminated” with the closure of GiDue USA in order to allow both companies to pursue separate market strategies. For its part, GiDue has appointed QAM Inc. to represent its North American interests. As newly appointed VP - Web Converting Division, Wes Harrington of QAM (and formerly of Comco International) is responsible for developing sales of GiDue’s label and packaging converting lines throughout North America.
GiDue plans to introduce its latest press, the E-Combat (Electronic Combat) shaftless model, at Labelexpo Europe. An interesting optional feature of this multi-substrate machine is the new IML-EDL inline delivery system for in-mold labels, available in widths of 11", 17" and 21".
