Six North American companies that serve the package converting and printing industry have formed a group called the Brand Protection Alliance Inc. (BPA). The group’s purpose is to serve as a resource for brand owners “in the design, development and implementation of customized, secure solutions against consumer product counterfeiting and diversion.”
The companies, five of which are in the United States, are: Acucote, Graham, NC (self-adhesive security labeling materials); Atlantic Paper, King of Prussia, PA (security papers); Creo, Vancouver, BC, Canada (forensically invisible taggants, readers and track and trace workflows); Dunmore Corporation, Bristol, PA (specialty security films); Kurz Transfer Products, Charlotte, NC (security holograms and optically variable devices), and Water Ink Technologies, Lincolnton, NC (security flexographic inks and coatings).
“The purpose of the Brand Protection Alliance,” according to the group’s mission statement, “is to provide a comprehensive range of authentication, prevention and security solutions to the global consumer products market by implementing a systematic approach that includes and incorporates: proven leading edge and emerging technologies; affordable and proactive detection and prevention programs; brand owner and package converter education; verifiable and sustainable results for the brand owner; and ongoing refinement to ensure that solutions remain effective.”
The solutions offered by the member companies will incorporate confidential covert and overt identifiers, as appropriate, that positively authenticate genuine brand items versus counterfeits and provide a verifiable return on investment to the brand owner.
The Brand Protection Alliance, its members point out, “does not manufacture or sell products. We serve as an objective resource to brand owners who are struggling with product designs and implementation strategies. By drawing on the individual strengths and experiences of the member companies, we are able to present effective solutions to the growing problems of product counterfeiting and diversion. Because the member resources are so varied, we are able to assist in the long term evolution and change required in brand protection programs.”
The BPA, headquartered in Graham, NC, USA, is a non-profit corporation. For more information, call
