Southworth attains
Lean certification
Tom Southworth, of Southworth Consulting LLC, a Niantic, CT, USA-based productivity consulting firm, recently attained Lean Bronze Certification from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Specializing in Lean Manufacturing for printers, Southworth has an extensive background in the label converting industry. He is also the author of the “Printing Lean” column in Label & Narrow Web magazine (see page 44).
According to the society, “Lean certification is a credential designed by industry for industry. It is a standard against which professional Lean competencies are measured. Its core driver is the desire to assess a Lean practitioner’s knowledge, skills and abilities. The certification is targeted to companies on Lean journeys, and to Lean champions, practitioners and consultants charged with facilitating those Lean transformations.”
To become certified, applicants must pass a written exam and a peer review of five continuous improvement projects that show practical application of Lean Manufacturing principles.
