Bunting’s flexible die operation in full swing
Bunting Magnetics Company, Newton, KS, USA, has increased its flexible die manufacturing operation to full production. It is located in a new, custom built facility in Newton, and is solely focused on the production of 100 percent chemically hardened flexible dies.
“Our new flexible die facility has a layout that was exclusively designed for the manufacturing of flexible magnetic dies,” says Mike Wilks, Bunting’s Flexible Die Division general manager. “Within the manufacturing process, Bunting has ensured that it is using the finest equipment in the world and has capabilities only a few companies in the industry currently feature.”
The new plant and equipment allow Bunting to produce all types of flexible dies from simple designs to intricate die patterns. Also, the company can produce stamp dies that are machine sharpened and chemically hardened. All of the equipment has been designed to manufacture dies in widths up to 30".
“This expansion of our product line perfectly complements our existing magnetic cylinder products,” adds Robert J. Bunting, president. “This was a strategic decision to accentuate the strength and quality of our overall product offering to the printing industry. Our X-treme series diecutting cylinders are recognized as the best in the world and we are convinced that our X-treme flexible dies will reach the same level of performance.”
Bunting uses computer-to-plate technology to image the dies, and all are 100 percent machine sharpened and nickel hardened, Wilks says. The company produces only chemically hardened dies. “This increases the life of the die exponentially without distorting the die edge, as high temperature hardening often does,” he adds.
