Southeastern Printing adds latest technologies
Southeastern Printing’s new facility in Palm City, FL, USA, provides labels for Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola and Dr Pepper Snapple Group. With its Comco C2 press, an eight station 22" machine, the company prints flexible packaging and beverage labels at extremely high volumes. The company recently acquired a Martin Automatic splicer and rewinder for the press to provide nonstop production capabilities.
The C2 press was initially paired with a manual unwind. Flexo Production Manager Jeff Ganswindt says, “The Martin equipment went in and started running production immediately. We’ve seen a significant increase in both run speeds and throughput, and there’s also been a welcome decrease in film waste.”
The Martin MBSF butt splicer features driven spindles and a low-tension capability to handle light films (typically 1 mil BOPP and PET) at speeds up to 1,000 fpm, matching the Comco’s printing capability. Printed rolls are automatically offloaded by a Martin LRD transfer rewind. With both machines’ cantilevered spindle designs, operators benefit from not having to handle shafts at either end of the press.
Ganswindt says the company is adding a Martin butt splicer and transfer rewind to its existing 22" Comco ProGlide press to enable nonstop running at 750 fpm.
