Kodak, MPS partner to show advancements in flexo

09.15.16

Presentations explain how flexo competes head-on with digital, offset and gravure printing.

Kodak and MPS have partnered at Labelexpo Americas 2016 to demonstrate how flexo label printers can deliver a level of print quality and cost competitiveness that will enable them to compete head-on with digital, offset and gravure suppliers. Kodak and MPS are displaying the advanced capabilities of the flexo technology by running three different press demonstrations on MPS’ automated EF press at booth 911. The daily press demonstrations are taking place at 9:45, 10:45 and 11:45 in the morning and 01:45, 02:45 and 03:45 in the afternoon.

The first demonstration is being hosted by MPS and will focus on running an 8-color job on self-adhesive material using CMYK inks only. Furthermore, during this demonstration, the new side load quick change die station Chameleon RobustCut of EMT and MPS is being introduced. The second demonstration is targeted at high-speed production of shrink sleeves, using GEW’s hybrid UV and LED technology. The third demonstration is being hosted by Kodak and focuses on the latest Kodak digital flexo plate technology which, together with the MPS automated press technology, enables high resolution, smooth transitions, clean reverses, open shadows and high-contrast image reproduction and functional microtext.

“We are excited to partner with MPS and to show how label printers can benefit from the latest flexo technology,” states Doug Weiss, Kodak’s business development and brand support manager. “We’ve been getting a great response to FLEXCEL NX System ’16 since its launch at drupa, and [the live demonstrations show] how new features like Kodak’s Advanced Edge Definition technology bring unprecedented control to ink transfer, enabling the highest quality, clean flexo printing.”

“This partnership resulted in the creation of three very impressive print job designs pushing the limits of flexo technology," adds Kees Nijenhuis, vice president of MPS Systems North America. "We have enjoyed showing this to the market during live press demonstrations at our booth at Labelexpo 2016.”

Kodak and MPS decided to partner for Labelexpo 2016, after a successful cooperation during the Dion Label Printing open house held in Westfield, MA, USA, earlier this year. During the event, an 8-color job (CMYK + 4 spot colors) was reproduced with just CMYK inks using KODAK FLEXCEL NX Plates with Kodak’s proprietary Advanced DIGICAP NX Patterning technology applied that leverages micro-engineered surfaces to increase ink transfer capabilities. Other partners have joined the cooperation of Kodak and MPS at Labelexpo 2016, including Zeller+Gmelin, Green Bay Packaging, Harper, Kocher & Beck, Klöckner Pentaplast, Meca print sleeves and Splash Graphics.
