Corona treatment is a surface modification process that uses a corona field to increase a material’s surface free energy and wettability thus increasing adhesion. The wettability of your material is important when bonding, coating, or printing.
QC Electronics, Inc. designs and manufactures a complete line of surface treatment equipment. We work closely with manufacturers including blown film, coaters, laminators, extruders, and printers to seamlessly integrate our systems with their production facility’s equipment. We also offer consulting and lab sample services through our in-house laboratory. We specialize in custom equipment. Whether that be a narrow web system in a tight spot or materials that require high surface energy for top coating or printing, we do it all. QC is your one-stop-shop for all corona treatment needs.
New Products and Investments
Our latest investment was the complete redesign of our NEXTGEN-i power supply. We developed the new design with a focus on new capabilities, longevity, and ease of operation in mind. The power supply is now controlled by an advanced operating platform using FPGA control. This allows the system to be more efficient and customer centric. The power supply is completely touch controlled; this allows you to access important operation information and run quick glance diagnostics. In 2021, we are also investing in a contact angle measurement device for our lab.
Narrow Web Corona Treatment
QC’s 4E narrow web corona treatment system treats conductive and nonconductive webs up to 24 inches in width. 4E = 4 ceramic electrodes. This unit delivers high power to a compact area. Because of this unit’s unique electrode design, we are now offering a 3-year warranty on 4E narrow web electrodes. The system itself has a 5-year warranty. With the versatile design, the 4E allows you to run high power densities at fast line speeds (up to 1,000 fpm). The 4E is the industry’s only swinging electrode assembly system. This feature allows for easy threading and cleaning. A swinging assembly allows maintenance to be performed right on your line in minutes. The assembly swings away from the web protecting the electrodes from splices and obstructions. This unit is also touch panel controlled, giving the operator a breath of fresh air. This system is available in web mount, stand alone, and portable designs. We want to make purchasing a corona treater easier; stock 4E narrow web systems will be available for purchase in standard sizes of 10”, 13”, 17”, 20” and 22” treat widths in March 2021. Press Integration
We commonly integrate our systems directly onto our customer’s press, Mark Andy P7 and P9 presses are examples of presses we have done this with in the past. QC has the capabilities to design and manufacture any type of custom mounting bracket that your equipment requires. Our engineering team will work with you directly to seamlessly integrate a QC corona treatment system onto your printing press. This customization is standard in our narrow web process.
Corona Treatment for Product Development
QC’s laboratory corona treater, the DocuDyne, was designed specifically for corona treating samples in a laboratory setting. The DocuDyne allows you to corona treat and test various samples right in your product development lab. Use the DocuDyne to record accurate production power levels and line speeds, watt densities, analyze ink and adhesion, and corona treat conductive and nonconductive substrates. The DocuDyne will treat an 8” wide sheet (customization is available to accommodate larger sheets/difficult materials). A 9” wide sheet will pass through the 8” treatment area. This lab model is designed to treat sheets versus a continuous web. The small footprint of the DocuDyne allows you to run product development practically anywhere, it conveniently plugs into any 120V outlet. Installation is a breeze; just attach the blower exhaust tube to the unit and plug it in. Test the adhesion of your product and get the results you require before running your production line.
