“The label industry benefited from the globally robust economy and positive consumer sentiment in 2007,” says Peter J. Hauser, chairman of Gallus. “At the same time, the consequences of the US real estate crisis as well as the weak US dollar had a negative impact on capital expenditure decisions in North America during the course of the year. Against this backdrop, the Gallus Group increased its turnover to CHF289 million (previous year: CHF283 million). Key to this rise were innovations in the form of highly productive label printing machines as well as the expansion of the market position, most notably in western and eastern Europe. The new production facilities for screen printing plates, which were commissioned in 2007, have enabled innovations in screen printing plates and contributes to an expansion of this business.”
BHS Druck und Veredelungstechnik GmbH, which was fully acquired in 2006, focused on the development of rollfed printing machines and diecutters for the economical manufacture of folding carton and cardboard products and generated turnover of CHF40 million (up 8 percent). At Drupa 2008, the company will present a new generation of machines for the manufacturing of folding cartons with a higher value via embellishment.
