The annual Phoenix Challenge Golf Tournament was held recently at Birkdale Golf Club in Huntersville, NC. This year’s event was a big success and has raised more funds to support flexo and graphic arts in education. With nearly 60 golfers and a great team of volunteers, the day was a success. The Captain’s Choice four-man scramble had a three way tie for the top placing teams. Each with a low score of 57, here is how they placed based team performance on the highest handicap holes:
1st place – Pat Hague, Bryan Robb, Eric Knowles and Gary Jones
2nd place – Tony Prozzi, Mike Gentry, Mark Coffman and Randy Butler
3rd place – Tim Garrity, Joe Czaplewski, Scott Trethaway and Scott Mayberry
A highlight every year is the Closest to the Pin contests – this year’s sharp shooters were – #2 Robert Austin (JR Cole Industries), #6 Paul Teachout (Harper Corporation of America), #12 Mike Gentry (Poteet Ink), and #16 – Bobby Sutherland (Max Daetwyler).
The event is the result of the many sponsors who are proud to support graphic arts education and the future of our industry. This year’s event is notable as the number of sponsors continues to increase. Some of the 2013 sponsors included: Bryce Corporation, JR Cole, Anderson & Vreeland, Praxair, Max Daetwyler, Mark Andy, Harper Corporation, Rotometrics, InterFlex Group, Sun Chemical, ID Images and CPCC.
The Phoenix Challenge Foundation continues to grow and expand because of this outstanding event. It is a thriving organization of dedicated professionals aimed at ensuring the viability of our industry through teaching practical flexo application, knowledge competitions and further education through scholarships and career development. It is the only one of its kind in North America. The foundation exists solely through generous donation made by industry supporters and businesses. The primary purpose is building awareness and education of flexography throughout North America. Businesses and organizations participating as sponsors will have access to a variety of options that in-turn deliver a variety of marketing and recognition.
