On Thursday, July 12, Sean Teufler of global anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation of America spoke about the latest trends in anilox technology at the annual 3M Flexo Symposium. The event took place at the Royal Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo, MN, USA.
Teufler is the technical director for Harper, and he presented on “Anilox Parameters for Flexo Printing.” His presentation focused on the three critical elements in crafting anilox specifications: ink transfer, dot support, and the condition/control factors in manufacturing and at press. Teufler discussed what it really means to have ink transfer, the goal of wet transfer of the correct amount with consistent results, and how polish, roughness average, and measurement process dictate quality in the anilox manufacturing process.
Teufler also provided examples of how in-press control is fundamental to establishing consistency in performance once specifications have been made.
