Mactac is continuing to promote sustainability, which generates increasing value to customers, employees and communities.
For many years, Mactac has practiced environmental responsibility – from reducing its environmental impact as a manufacturer to developing environmentally friendly products. Mactac’s environmental sustainability goals include:
For example, Mactac’s manufacturing facilities focus daily on waste reduction. Plants recycle all stretch wrap, corrugate, aluminum, steel, plastic, batteries, electronic waste, bulbs, capacitors, pallets and drums. Coated product waste is either recycled or sent to waste-to-energy plants.
Additionally, Mactac has eliminated solvent-based coating, replacing with 100% solids coating technology. It also has production sustainability programs in place, like the Precise Program, which eliminates material off-cuts going to waste for customers.
Furthermore, Mactac sources paper from companies that procure materials from sustainably managed forests. The company’s research and development teams continuously pursue technology that aids in recycling, as well.
Mactac’s sustainable labeling products include ultra-thin paper liners – such as the new 1.7-mil Bloom hi.mpact – recycle-compatible adhesives, post-consumer waste labelstocks and water dissolvable labelstocks.
Mactac’s environmental stewardship further supports the growing demand for sustainability in the labeling industry. Recent data from Neilson states that sales of products with sustainable attributes have an average annual growth rate of 20%, compared to 2% for conventional products. The data also suggests that half of US consumers are highly likely to modify their consumption habits to reduce their impact on the environment.
“The year 2020 is set to be a year of action and reaction – building on the fast-growing trends we’ve seen in sustainability in the last several years,” says Kevin Clunie, sales and marketing director for Mactac’s Performance Adhesives Group. “Brand owners and packaging companies have a growing need to be environmentally responsible, and Mactac’s commitment to sustainability helps them further achieve their own sustainability goals.”
