CCL Label has announced the installation of a fully automated label matrix removal system from Lundberg Tech in its Clinton, SC facility.
Custom-engineered to handle the company's highly sticky, PET matrix waste without jams or clogs, the Lundberg Tech central waste handling system automatically captures the waste from the label press, cuts it into little pieces, and pneumatically conveys the material directly to a compactor for densifying and easy recycling or disposal.
To counter the stickiness, the Lundberg design features a proprietary, integrated lubrication system that maintains a constant oil film on the granulator blades without requiring compressed air, and the granulator, ventilator, air separator and entire 150 feet of ductwork are treated with a non-stick coating specific to the adhesives.
“Every time you stop to manually rewind the matrix, you have to stop the entire line, then splice the matrix to restart,” says Alfredo Yanes, maintenance manager for the CCL facility. “We're busy and we don't have time for that, and this automated system eliminates that issue completely, along with the entire waste handling function.”
Currently operating at two machines, the Lundberg design includes the ability to manage matrix waste from up to four machines, future-proofing the installation and accommodating the anticipated need for more capacity. “The people at Lundberg really listened to what we needed,” says Yanes. “It's a quality system, their installation team went out of their way to work without disrupting our operation, and service has been fast. There's no doubt I would buy from Lundberg the next time we need a matrix waste system.”
