Smyth earns
high honors
at POPAI awards
Smyth Companies Inc., of St. Paul, MN, has won a top award for point-of-purchase merchandising. Smyth-Displays, the point-of-purchase arm of the company, was awarded a first place gold award in the Point-of-Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) Outstanding Merchandising Achievement Awards for 2003. The honored entry was an end cap display created by Smyth-Displays for Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea line of fragrances for women.
The Outstanding Merchandising Achievement (OMA) Awards is an annual competition open to producers of point-of-purchase displays and merchandising material. Over 1000 entries compete for gold, silver, and bronze honors. Each entry is judged based on the display’s ability to increase retail sales, obtain retail placement, work strategically to position the brand at the point-of-sale, and show creativity and innovation. The Green Tea display was ranked high by all of these measures.
Smyth has worked with Elizabeth Arden to create other retail display projects, including an innovative pallet display created to hold a variety of holiday gift set offerings at Wal-Mart stores. Smyth has also won numerous honors for previous OMA Awards entries, for a variety of display designs and constructions. In addition to P.O.P. displays, Smyth Companies also produces primary package labels and package-centered promotions. The company employs approximately 500 people at six locations in Minnesota, Colorado, and Virginia.
