Mondi has released two new bags designed to improve consumer goods packaging. According to the international packaging and paper group, a new highly stable, reclosable bag called the Flat Bottom Bag and the Square Bag are now available.
The Flat Bottom Bag offers easy-filling advantages for packagers of pet food, food, garden items, cleaning products and other goods. It features a specially designed flat base with rounded edges for enhanced stability. The bag maintains its shape during transportation and storage and has an attractive appearance on store shelves.
“Mondi’s Flat Bottom Bag supports greater efficiency on filling lines,” says Markus Hoedebeck, vice president of product development, Mondi Jackson (MO). “The bag opens with ease, allows fast and highly efficient filling and is compatible with all conventional filling machines.”
The bag can be fitted with a variety of different closures to suit the application, including a top zipper, top slider or hook-and-loop closure. The closures allow consumers to seal the bag after use, protecting its contents and preserving freshness.
The Flat Bottom Bag is manufactured at Mondi North America’s Jackson, MO, USA facility. The bag can be printed in up to 10 colors using rotogravure or new high-definition flexographic processes. Matte finishes can be applied to the bag’s printed areas, adding visual depth and producing an appealing contrast with the packaging’s glossier images. The bag’s sides can be made of transparent materials, making its contents visible to consumers.
Mondi’s Square Bag packaging solution has been tested and preapproved by PPi Technologies Group for use on PSG LEE filling machines. Testing took place at PPi Technologies Group facilities in Sarasota, FL, USA and was completed in February 2015.
“Customers can have the assurance that Mondi’s Square Bag is fully compatible with existing PSG LEE and similar filling machines,” says Markus Hoedebeck, vice president of product development, Mondi Jackson (MO). “The testing confirmed that no additional tooling or adjustments are needed with the Square Bag. It is ready for integration into existing filling lines in diverse packaging applications.”
The Square Bag, which is constructed of advanced barrier films in multiple layers, supports diverse consumer goods applications, including the packaging of food, wine and pet food. It can handle packaging for powders and granular materials weighing up to 10 pounds and liquids up to 1.5 gallons. The Square Bag displays graphics and product information on all six panels and can be fitted with a spout, zipper, slider or other opening to suit the application.
The pouches undergo 100% inline inspection of the spout sealing area during production, offering assurance of leak-proof reliability. They are able to accommodate a variety of fitments and spouts and can be ordered in hot fill or retort laminate designs.
Mondi employs around 25,000 people across more than 30 countries and maintains key operations in central Europe, Russia, North America and South Africa. The company offers over 100 packaging and paper products, customized into more than 100,000 different solutions for customers and end consumers. Sustainability is one of its core business practices, having been included in the FTSE4Good Index Series since 2008 and the JSE’s Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Index since 2007.
