Avery Dennison – Glendale, CA, USA – Mitchell Butier has been named president and chief operating officer. Donald Nolan, president of the Materials Group, is leaving the company after a brief transition period.
Barry-Wehmiller – St. Louis, MO, USA – Carol O’Neill has been named Barry-Wehmiller’s vice president of strategy, technology and key initiatives.
Bemis Company – Neenah, WI, USA – The Board of Directors at Bemis Company has elected Michael Clauer to the position of vice president and chief financial officer.
C & M Conveyor – Mitchell, IN, USA – Evan Hodgkinson (2) has been promoted to the newly created position of roll handling product manager.
Cosmo Films – New Delhi, India – Cosmo Films has appointed Satish Subramanian as vice president of global sales and marketing. He will be responsible for domestic and international sales.
Davis-Standard – Pawcatuck, CT, USA – Davis-Standard has announced that Bob Preston is transitioning from CEO to vice-chairman of the Board of Directors. The company will search for a new CEO in the meantime. Davis-Standard has also appointed Tee Guan Huat (3) and Adrian Gomez (4) to its leadership team for the ASEAN region. Huat will serve as sales director for converting systems, while Gomez, who is currently serving as Davis-Standard’s ASEAN business development manager in Malaysia, will focus his efforts on sales of the company’s extrusion systems.
Esko – Gent, Belgium – Esko has announced that Udo Panenka (5), senior vice president for global sales and marketing, will succeed Carsten Knudsen as president. In the short term, Knudsen will continue to support Esko and Danaher in an advisory role.
FLXON – Charlotte, NC, USA – FLXON has appointed Alan Poole (6) to its new area business development manager post. Poole, who has also served as a sales representative, will be responsible for the northeast US, Quebec and Ontario regions.
Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, CA, USA – The GrCI, an extension of the university’s graphic communication department, has named Lyndee Sing as its new director.
GPA – McCook, IL, USA – Tim Wild (7) has retired from GPA as the territory sales manager for the Pacific Northwest. Kim Kotel (8), who has been with the company since 2003, has accepted Wild’s vacated role.
Heidelberg UK – Middlesex, United Kingdom – Heidelberg UK has added Darren Godfrey to its digital team after spending six years with Konica Minolta.
Heidelberg USA – Kennesaw, GA, USA – Heidelberg USA has appointed Thomas McTernan (9) to the position of vice president for national consumables sales. He most recently served as regional vice president, central region, and was based in Chicago. Former account executive (central) Randy Wiersma (10) will take over for McTernan in that capacity.
InfoTrends – Weymouth, MA, USA –Howie Fenton has joined InfoTrends as associate director of operations consulting.
Innovia Group – Wigton, United Kingdom – After 10 years with Innovia, David Beeby is retiring as Group CEO. Mark Robertshaw is assuming the vacated role.
IST Metz - Nürtingen-Zizishausen, Germany – The company has announced the passing of its founder, Gerhard Metz (11), following a short illness. Metz and his wife, Renata, built up the company into an international manufacturer of UV technologies. His group now comprises 16 companies with subsidiaries all over the world.
Metz knew almost every one of his 500 or so employees by name - the personal touch was always important to him. In 2000, Metz was awarded the “Wirtschaftsmedaille,” a medal in recognition of his services to commerce in the Baden-Württemberg region. In 2001, he received further acknowledgement of his life’s work when he was appointed honorary president of the surface treatment technology section of the Verband Deutscher Maschinen-und Anlagenbau e.V. (German Engineering Association, VDMA).
Kodak – Rochester, NY, USA – As part of its corporate restructuring, Kodak has announced a new team of corporate functional leaders. As of January 1, 2015, John McMullen will be the chief financial officer and executive vice president; Mark Green will serve as chief human resources officer and senior vice president; Steven Overman is the new chief marketing officer and senior vice president; Patrick Sheller is general counsel, secretary and chief administrative officer and senior vice president; Terry Taber will be the chief technical officer and senior vice president; and Kim VanGelder is the chief information officer and vice president. VanGelder will report to CEO Jeff Clarke.

LATMA – Hampton East, Australia – Label and Tag Manufacturers of Australia (LATMA) has announced the retirement of president Alan Dabschek. Impresstik Labels managing director Mark Easton has been elected as Dabschek’s successor.
NPTA – Chicago, IL, USA – NPTA, the association for the paper distribution channel, has presented Morris Dennis with the 2015 Stanley O. Styles Industry Excellence Award. Morris has spent 71 years in the industry and is the founder of Dennis Paper.
Pamarco Global Graphics – Atlanta, GA, USA – Dan Foy has been appointed as the flexo division’s technical sales representative for the mid-south region at Pamarco Global Graphics. He will be headquartered in Dallas, TX, USA.

Smartrac – Stuttgart, Germany – Christian Uhl (13) has been appointed to CEO and chairman of the management board at Smartrac. He had been serving as the company’s CFO and will take over for Clemens Joos, who resigned.
TLMI – Gloucester, MA, USA – TLMI has announced that Steve Schulte, Mark Andy’s vice president for sales and marketing, has recently been appointed to the association’s Board of Directors.
Tresu Royse – Bjert, Denmark – The American subsidiary of the international flexo provider has appointed Elvis Fajardo as sales manager of the Latin American region.
Universal Converting Equipment – Suffolk, UK – Mike Wilkinson (14) has been named sales executive at Universal Converting Equipment.
Western States Envelope & Label – Butler, WI, USA – Greg Retzer has been promoted to VP of sales and marketing. Retzer has served in multiple capacities since joining the company in 1985.
Bob Biava, former owner of Driscoll Label, 72
Robert J. Biava, former owner of Driscoll Label in Fairfield, NJ, USA, has passed away at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, sons Jason and Scott, daughter, Stacey Connors, and three grandchildren.
A graduate of Pennsylvania Military College and a veteran of the US Army, Biava’s professional career included management positions at Avery Dennison, Essex Coated Products and Webcraft. In 1985, he and Pat bought Driscoll Label from Elwood Driscoll; the acquisition included a separate business, Custom Cut Label Stock. In the 1990’s, Driscoll’s business shifted from small retail businesses to larger and more prominent companies. The company evolved from a three-color Mark Andy press, to a Roto Press, and eventually to a 10-color press. In 2005, he and his wife sold the business and retired.
A long-time member of TLMI, Bob was an astute marketer who appreciated the benefits of networking. In 2005, Driscoll Label won TLMI’s Eugene Singer Award for the best managed company. He was also one of the founders of the North East Label Manufacturers Association.
