As the calendar turns to spring, our industry starts preparing for the busy travel season ahead. Conferences and trade shows will take us all over the country – and world – to observe the latest and greatest that our industry has to offer. Plus, countless suppliers will peel back their facilities’ curtains for open houses, providing more opportunities for education, live product demonstrations and networking. Of course, Labelexpo returns to the Americas in 2020, meaning those who could not make it to Brussels can witness the newest product launches side-by-side in September.
I’m looking forward to learning about the latest in digital printing, flexo supplies, low migration inks and everything in between. Since I joined Label & Narrow Web more than five years ago, the technological developments have been nothing short of astonishing. The influx of automation and data has positioned labels and packaging to succeed well into the future. When visiting converters, it never ceases to amaze me how seemingly small investments can create such substantial ROI benefits.
For me, however, the people are this industry’s greatest asset. While talking to Tom Staib, president and owner of DWS Printing, he made the prescient point that, “We can accomplish a whole lot more together as a group.” I truly appreciate the enthusiasm and camaraderie that’s present in the industry. This positive outlook helps foster a healthy exchange of ideas and promotes learning. This attitude makes going to work each day a lot more fun, and it also makes traveling much more pleasant, as well. This spring and summer should see no shortage of “coming together,” as we continue to prepare for the future. To learn more about DWS Printing, read our Narrow Web profile on page 48.
Not only am I readying for a packed travel itinerary, I will be doing so in my new role as editor of Label & Narrow Web. Just as I am gearing up for airport travel and deadlines, I am welcoming the challenges and opportunities this job presents. I’m fortunate to have had an industry pillar like Steve Katz prepare me for what lies ahead. He shared the same enthusiasm for this job as many suppliers and converters do for producing award-winning labels. While he’ll still be in the industry, he will be taking on a new challenge by helping converters and suppliers elevate their brands. He’s using this opportunity to use his expertise to help those companies in need. Again, the people
are what make this industry so enjoyable. When you see me walking the floors of the next trade show or taking notes at an upcoming conference, don’t hesitate to say, “Hello.” I look forward to seeing you – and Steve – there.
