The two new additions to Espon’s label portfolio, which offers higher print quality, consistency, flexibility, and value for label converters, specialty printers, and vertical manufacturers, will be on display in Rosemont at Labelexpo. The SurePress L-4733AW builds on the success of its predecessor, the L-4533AW. Virtually automatic, requiring no manual cleaning of the printhead surface, the new press is primed for unattended printing. With the optional SureSpectro AS-4000 inline spectrometer for real-time automated measurements to speed profiling and ensure consistent output for multi-plant networks, the L-4733AW can deliver accurate spot colors and gradients required for brand-quality color prime labels and packaging. The L-4733AW supports a range of substrates, including off-the-shelf flexo materials, without the need to surface prime. Its inks meet the latest safety standards and regulations, such as REACH, and deliver high-quality images, making it a versatile press suitable for converters focusing on food and beverage and health and beauty labels. The SurePress L-6534VW with orange ink uses CMYK with standard high-opacity white ink plus orange to widen the color gamut, using the minimum colors required. It can offer up to 92% Pantone coverage certification within Delta E of 1.5,1.

    FLAG

    Booth 3007
    Services for Independent Label Converters

FLAG (Flexo Label Advantage Group) will highlight how its services can help independent label converters deal with challenges that have only increased in the market over the past 24 months. For most, business is up year-over-year, however the allocation, rising material costs, workforce challenges, and more continue...On top of that, the large national converters continue to grow by buying small companies who struggle to keep up.  Independent converters deserve the resources these big companies are getting too. That’s why FLAG will have a booth at Labelexpo this year to demonstrate the programs and benefits of membership in the association while also hosting a roundtable event for 20 independent converters who will – for the first time ever – be able to experience a popular FLAG member benefit. Using the “Think Forward” approach, FLAG has been able to set new goals for the association, and with its members and vendor partners. FLAG will discuss how it can continue to exponentially increase value for its independent converter members and committed vendor partners.

    Mark Andy

    Booth 319
    Digital Printing

Mark Andy is extending its partnership with Konica Minolta to further its capabilities in the digital converting space, and this integrated technology will be on display at the Mark Andy booth. Mark Andy has announced it will serve as the exclusive provider of Konica Minolta’s newest technology, the Accurio Label 400 (AL400), for the labels and packaging industry. Integrating this new toner-based print technology into its Digital Pro (DPro) line, Mark Andy is developing its first 5-color (CMYK and white) toner, end-to-end label and converting solution. Combining Konica Minolta’s strengths in digital marking with Mark Andy’s strengths in web handling, decorating and converting, this new press will create a single-pass, high-quality, fast and cost-effective solution for the mid-to-high volume label market.  The addition of digital white toner provides Mark Andy customers – for the first time – with the flexibility to use clear or metallic substrates for short-run label work without needing to use a flexo plate. Customers will find increased productivity moving between jobs and ease of utilizing white within variable graphics. The new press provides improved print speeds up to 140 fpm, as well. Similarly, converters will realize added savings associated with waste reduction, lower consumable costs, and extended duty cycles.

    Pri+

    Booth 810
    PS Label Materials

This September, the Paper Resources team will be rebranding to Pri+ (Pea Are Eye Plus). Since 1995, Paper Resources, Inc. has served the pressure sensitive labeling industry. The company began as a distributor and invested in its first coating line in 2004. Many have said the name Paper Resources represents a paper distributor out of Scranton. “We’re seizing an opportunity to evolve our brand in order to better communicate the range of offerings and expertise Pri+ truly represents,” says Jason Crooks, president. The Pri+ brand will provide more space to demonstrate its focus on providing premium label constructions with aggressive adhesives for difficult-to-label applications. At Labelexpo Americas 2022, the company will fully reveal its new Pri+ brand identity. Along with its complete line of eight different specialty hot-melt adhesives, the company will be showcasing TimberTack on its rugged label constructions. TimberTack is a very aggressive, soft adhesive that excels when applied to wood, burlap, corrugated packaging, carpet backing, HDPE, and even livestock.

The Labelexpo floor map will be printed on this sustainable material to ensure a low carbon footprint for the show. For industrial, VIP and prime labels, Fiberskin, a weather-resistant paper that is recyclable, biodegradable and printable by dry toner and for short-term outdoor exposure, will be on display as well.

    Booth 3529
    Laser Diecutting, Digital Finishing

Prati has optimized its DIGIFASTone product line to meet demand for the “present future,” and this product range will be featured at Prati’s booth. Based on Futura Technology, DIGIFASTone features laser diecutting units and customized digital finishing groups, such as tactile effects and textures, decorations and textures up to 130 μm, Braille and more, to better assist this generation’s label converters with solutions that meet the requirements of Industry 4.0.  DIGIFASTone is completely modular and available in S-D or D-S configurations. To accommodate just-in-time printing and finishing, Prati’s digital finishing utilizes DOD LED/UV printheads. With a speed of 50 m/m, converters are capable of selective UV coating even at high thicknesses. In addition, the complete version is already available with the application of foil for an entirely digital “cold gold” and “hot gold” effect. According to Prati, this printing technique allows a limited investment and reduces processing costs.

The company, which is known for its Lumirror polyester films specified for label applications, is capitalizing on its leadership in technologically advanced polypropylene film manufacturing and its new, state-of-the-art 8.7-meter polypropylene film line to produce the new label materials. The debut of the Torayfan OPP label film portfolio consists of three roll-fed films: TLFC clear film in 48, 65, and 75 gauges, TLFM matte film in a 59 gauge, and TLFW white cavitated film in a 110 gauge. These label films offer excellent ink adhesion and printability and very good moisture resistance. The clear film has enhanced clarity, and the white film’s opacity, brightness, and gloss are also of increased quality and may allow the converter to eliminate white ink. The TLF portfolio is compatible with flexo and gravure presses, energy-curable inks, and water-based, solvent, and solventless laminators. In addition, the new polypropylene film line allows the company to provide customers with larger rolls that offer more lineal footage. The Toray team will also be sharing information about new PSL label films that are in development. That diverse portfolio will include uncoated and coated BOPP facestocks for clear, metalized, and cavitated and solid core white label applications.

    Digital Printing

From the Xeikon side of the Flint Group booth, the digital printing specialist will showcase both toner and UV inkjet technologies. These will include the Xeikon CX500 dry toner press, Xeikon PX3300 UV-IJ hybrid press, and uniform X-800 Workflow – a common platform across the company’s presses and Digital Embellishment Track.  The customer benefits are an outcome in how Xeikon works with label converters and printers to find the best solution for their set of applications. Xeikon will talk to customers about assessing business needs, taking into account budget and printing volume. We then take a deep dive into the application: Does it require a specific type of substrate or print size? Looking for a particular look and feel? Does the application set need to satisfy certain legal requirements or other conditions? Xeikon considers all factors to suggest the printing technology that’s right for a business. Xeikon delivers service and an end-to-end solution that goes beyond just a new digital printing press. Converters can automate operations and optimize productivity with Xeikon’s smart software and workflow.
