Sun Chemical becomes MetalFX supplier

January 24, 2006

Sun Chemical, the world’s largest ink maker, has announced a licensing agreement under which it will make and sell MetalFX inks, a technology that can be used to print up to 104 million metallic colors.

Sun Chemical will have five locations throughout the United States to support MetalFX sales. They are St Charles, IL; Santa Fe Springs, CA; Atlanta, GA;  Philadelphia, PA, and Grand Prairie, TX.

MetalFX, a process launched by a British company of the same name, has opened up a new color spectrum for printers and designers. Thousands of metallic colors can be created by overprinting process color inks over MetalFX base silver ink. The color specification is controlled through the MetalFX software and swatch books. The process inks used for MetalFX have defined values, so Sun Chemical can produce inks compatible with the metallic color specification system.

“The MetalFX technique expands the gamut of special--effects possibilities for printers,” says Chris Morrissey, Sun Chemical’s corporate vice president of marketing.
