Max Daetwyler Corporation (MDC), of Huntersville, NC, USA, has received the Innovation Award from the European Rotogravure Association.

The award was presented to MDC for its Starbase Cylinder System, a manufacturing process to produce lightweight gravure cylinders. According to the company, the advantages of using Starbase cylinders include substantial cost savings by using polymer material rather then steel; reduced shipping and handling costs; storage flexibility; easier handling and press loading; and quicker setup. Users can resize existing cylinders with the Starbase Cylinder System rather than purchasing new cylinder bases.
