Placing environmental issues high on its agenda, UPM Raflatac announced at Labelexpo Europe that it is working now to implement environmental ISO 14001 certification at its factories across the world. The company is developing initiatives to recycle its process residues, and later possibly those of others, into products made from a wood-plastic composite. Called UPM ProFi, the new product uses self-adhesive waste as raw material. Suitable for patio decking, UPM ProFi is being used for the exhibition stand’s floor construction.
UPM Raflatac also announced that it is nearing completion of its largest ever investment program, which saw the company expand since 2005 with the addition of eight new coating lines and upgrades to its slitting and finishing operations worldwide. In Europe the investment program has doubled the company’s film capacity.
The company further announced the introduction of OptiSize, a pilot program to offer customers pre-slit rolls at specific sizes with a slightly longer lead time, for those converters who have the opportunity to order materials earlier.
