With an unusual 400ml bottle design, the Jarritos line of soft drinks made from natural fruit extracts hit the shelves in Mexico in 1950, becoming the first national brand of Mexican soft drinks in the country.

Jarritos is now available in major Hispanic markets across the USA, where it is produced and distributed by Novamex. The company recently decided to change the image of the product to compete in today’s crowded non-alcoholic drinks market, and appealed to Spear, the Ohio based label converter, for help with contemporizing the brand’s image using the SpearSystem.

Historically the clear, embossed bottle displayed a two- to three-color ACL decoration followed later by flexo printed roll-form decoration for many years, so Spear’s solution was a new direction. The clear film pressure sensitive labels from Spear are four-color screen printed on the front, and two-color back labels. Novamex also changed the bottle shape to ensure easy application as well as a contemporary new image.

Novamex plans to export the Jarritos to Canada, Spain and other European countries throughout 2008.
