Mondi Packaging Coating and Release has announced plans to proceed with an investment program in its global production facilities.

Mondi Packaging Coating and Release has announced plans to proceed with an investment program in its global production facilities. Targeting Western Europe, Mondi will develop a new facility on a brownfield site that will be built next to the existing facility in Stetí, Czech Republic. With an investment of more than €6 million over the next 12 months, the 2.7 meter wide triple extruder with inline printing will serve the reel wrapping industry and provide solutions for the building industry from 2009 onwards.

In early 2008, capacity and quality enhancements will be made at two existing 3.15 meter machines at the Extrusion Coating plant in Örebro, Sweden. The focus will be on advanced quality control systems and superior printing capacity to strengthen the solutions portfolio for the reel and ream wrapping industry in Scandinavia and in export markets. This step is part of a long-term plan to further develop the market and cost position of the coating and release business in the industrial papers industry.

Already operational, since May 2007, is a new extrusion coater in the US based facility in Lancaster, OH, USA. Together with a planned new rewinder in the sister plant in Menasha, WI, USA, the investment of more than €4 million increases the solutions portfolio with locally produced polyethylene coated papers for international key accounts.

Mondi Packaging Coating & Release, a division of Mondi Group, headquartered in South Africa, is a supplier of plastic- and paper-based materials, providing technologies such as extrusion coating, laminating, siliconizing, and printing. Products for the narrow web industry include customized release liners for pressure sensitive materials.
