Epson, well known for its inkjet technologies, exhibited its rollfed digital press to the Labelexpo crowd. Labels printed on the prototype model, which is expected to undergo some modifications as it nears the production stage, received positive comments from converters at the show.
The press is 13” wide (with a 12.5” print width), and has a repeat of 36”. The color gamut includes CMYK plus orange, green and matte black. In its current stage of development, the Epson press has an output of 16 feet per minute.
Epson has developed an ink set specifically for the digital label press, which will allow for printing on regular pressure sensitive substrates without a need for special coatings.
