Specialty Printing LLC, East Windsor, CT, USA, has earned ISO 9001:2000 certification, which is based on internationally recognized quality standards. ISO 9001:2000 certification also provides a basis for other certifications, such as ISO 13485, which is for the medical industry.
“ISO certification opens doors for us with other potential customers, strengthens our position with existing customers and drives continuous quality improvement,” says president and CEO Bill Bailey. “Some companies will work only with vendors who are ISO certified, so it will open up new markets for us.”
The certification was a company-wide effort that began with a pre-audit in May. “The pre-audit determined we were ready and our chances to be certified were good,” according to Lynne Hartwell, ISO documentation coordinator. “The entire company has been through a system of Lean and kaizen programming. Doing so set us up to be better prepared to gain ISO certification. It put a lot of systems in place. Every department was audited, paperwork was reviewed and updated, and corrective actions were initiated and completed."
Specialty Printing was founded in 1978 and has grown to become a diversified manufacturer of pressure sensitive labels and related products. It serves some of the largest companies in the medical devices industry and has developed multi-layered labels being used by national grocery store chains. It has been named one of the area’s fastest growing businesses by The Metro Hartford Alliance for each of the past two years.
