The Tag & Label Manufacturer’s Institute (TLMI) has presented its 2008 Environmental Leadership Award for Technical Innovation to Avery Dennison Fasson Roll North America for its commitment to environmental sustainability. The institute also presented the Lauterbach Group, a Wisconsin, USA, converter, with its 2008 Environmental Leadership Award for Best Practices.
Fasson was recognized for developing a five-pronged program to improve its commitment to sustainability. These include eco-friendly product offerings, a sustainable service program, education and training, certification, and environmental health and safety programs. A sustainability team collaborated with external and internal relationships to create cost savings, reduce waste, develop chain-of-custody certification, support educational processes, and earn VPP Star Status with OSHA with definitive and measurable results.
According to Calvin Frost, chairman of TLMI’s Environmental Committee, Lauterbach Group has demonstrated a commitment to reducing waste, actively recycling, reducing energy consumption, utilizing new clean technologies, and educating group members within the organization on green principles. The company created an internal award that recognized ideas that had an environmental, social and/or financial impact. Lauterbach is in the process of achieving chain of custody certification with both FSC and SFI, and its new building will meet LEED certification requirements.
