The Tag & Label Manufacturers Institute will present a free webinar on this month to explain to members and the converting community the details of Project LIFE, the Label Initiative For the Environment. Participation in Project LIFE, which is available to TLMI members only, allows converters and suppliers to make environmentally responsible improvements to their operations and products that can lead to official certification by the institute.
The hour-long webinar will take place Monday, November 17, at 2 pm EST. The moderator will be Thomas Dahbura of Hub Labels, chairman of TLMI’s Education Committee. Although Project LIFE is for TLMI members only, others in the industry are encouraged to join the webinar audience.
Project LIFE is the result of nearly two years of work by a task force created by the TLMI Environmental Committee. Early this year the group retained Five Winds International, an environmental management consulting company that helped create the structure of the program. In a nutshell, participation in the project involves taking steps to reduce a company’s carbon footprint in many areas of the plant and in business and manufacturing practices, ultimately leading to a third-part audit and eventual certification. The certification can be used by a company to market its environmental efforts and achievements to its customer.
Two speakers will make presentations during the webinar. The first is Laura Flanigan, a consultant with Five Winds, who will explain Project LIFE in detail. The second is Will Muir, president of Grand Rapids Label and a member of the task force, whose company is the pilot site for implementation of the project. A question and answer period will follow.
