September 15, 2010

Terry Fulwiler was presented with the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Terry Fulwiler received the R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award Tuesday night during an awards ceremony and dinner aboard a sightseeing boat in Lake Michigan under the gleaming lights of the Chicago skyline. Fulwiler, recently retired CEO of WS Packaging, has devoted his career to growing a family business into one of the label industry’s largest companies.

Several other awards were presented during the event. The Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation was presented to Omet, the Italian press manufacturer. Runners up were Collano, Tailored Solutions and Xeikon. Omet, now in its 47th year of operation, employs 180 people and has more than 1,000 presses around the world. In 2008 the company received the Innovation Award from the Flexographic Technical Association.

The Label Industry Award for New Innovation went to Roland DG Corporation for its wide format VersaUV printer-cutter, which allows the creation of product prototypes from cartons to flexible packaging, as well as production of short run labels with a wide range of special effects. Runners up were Cerm, Gallus and Primera Technologies.

The Converter Award for Sustainability/Environmental Responsibility was won by Paragon Label, a company that pursues energy conservation, waste recycling, purchasing practices focused on Forest Stewardship Council certified suppliers, waste water treatment, building construction, and the use of non-toxic inks. Runners up were Spear, Specialty Printing and Vintage 99 Label Manufacturing.
