Avery Dennison restructures US distribution network

May 9, 2011

Two DCs will close this summer, and three others are expanding capacity.

Following a review of its distribution network, Avery Dennison’s Label and Packaging Materials division has decided to close its distribution centers in Kansas City, MO, USA, and Greensboro, NC, USA. The closings will take place July 29.

As a result, the US facilities in Fort Wayne, IN; Neenah, WI, and Greenfield, IN will play a greater role in the company’s finishing and distribution operations, says Judy Abelman, vice president of communications for the division. “In anticipation of increased volume, we have invested in capacity and capability in our centrally-located Indiana facilities, including new state-of-the-art finishing assets that were recently brought online in Greenfield,” she says.

“In addition, we have redistributed finishing volume across six different locations to ensure that we meet service expectations,” Abelman continues. “We have also added inventory of pre-slit materials, and have set up additional dedicated delivery trucks and augmented capacity of our freight lines to manage increases in demand.”

Employees affected by the changes were notified May 5. “We are committed to providing the employees with as smooth a transition as possible over the coming months,” Abelman says.
