Flint Group has announced the passing of Louis Werneke, founder of the Werneke Ink Company and longtime member of the narrow web printing industry.
In a statement, the company says, "It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Louis 'Inky Lou' Werneke, who died peacefully on March 31. Louis was born June 23, 1926 and was married to June Louise Werneke. Lou is survived by his two children, Matthew Werneke and Lisa Werneke Nelson; he lived to see and enjoy eight grandchildren. Lou was preceded in death by his wife, June (2008), and his brother, Skip (2003)."
Werneke was the founder of Werneke Ink Company, which remains a key component of Flint Group today. He also contributed to the design of the first water-based ink for flexographic printing in 1973. At the time, Werneke stated, “There have to be some changes made for the environment and for the energy crunches we have.”
Visitation and prayer Mass will be held Monday, April 8 at Washburn-McReavy in Edina, MN, USA. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to N.C. Little Hospice Edina, Minnesota at 7019 Lynmar Lane, Edina, MN 55435.
"Our thoughts and sympathy go out to the Werneke family and friends during this sad time. We have all lost a well respected friend, colleague, and an industry icon," the company says.
