DISC has announced that it has been honored by the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) for expertise in packaging design and execution. The PPC is a trade association for converters and suppliers of all forms of paperboard packaging in North America. DISC came away with 2 Gold Awards, one for fragrance client Trish McEvoy’s deluxe packaging for its Precious Pink Jasmine and Black Rose Oud eau de parfum and one for DISC’s 2013 promotional calendar “Creating Realities: The Fine Art of Photorealism.” Its Excellence Award winner was the special hinged album box for A to Z Music’s release of the “Amanda Palmer & the Grand Theft Orchestra” album.
“We are more than thrilled to be the recipient of the prestigious PPC awards again,” says Margaret Krumholz, president of DISC. “It never gets old to be acknowledged by our peers at the Paperboard Packaging Council. The DISC team has delivered on its promise to create innovative, high-production value for our clients, year after year, and we are very proud of them.”
The special boxes created for Trish McEvoy were designed to showcase the high-end fragrances, Precious Pink Jasmine and Black Rose Oud, for the luxury goods market. All stops were pulled to develop these sublime beauties. They were designed with a dual purpose in mind – traffic-stopping product displays and lovely keepsakes. Both boxes are printed, embossed and foil stamped with simple graphics and exhibit a strong tactile and visual appeal. Hidden magnet-on-magnet closures add security.
This competition gave DISC’s 2013 promotional calendar, Creating Realities: The Fine Art of Photorealism, its eleventh industry award (and 7th Gold). This dynamic calendar provides a crucible for the most advanced graphic and production enhancements the company has to offer. Starting with impressive and edgy work from 8 renowned Photorealist painters, DISC added a combination of techniques and enhancements that turned up the volume for the almost photographic images. The various techniques that brought each calendar page to life included 4-color process and 6-color Hexachrome™ printing; cold foil stamping; inline soft touch coating; reticulating varnish and UV techniques; offline gloss screen UV; grit coating; and sculptured embossing.
The Excellence Award for the deluxe hinged box created to showcase the Amanda Palmer & the Grand Theft Orchestra special album (A to Z Music) acknowledges packaging that was part of an exclusive promotional campaign to garner support on Kickstarter-backer.com for singer/musician Amanda Palmer and her band. The box was designed with pockets to hold a 7” vinyl record and a dozen large format, full color inserts of original art. It was wrapped in black Rainbow text and embellished with silver foil stamping of the finely detailed title graphics.
“We work closely with our clients’ creative teams every day to bring their packaging visions to life,” says John Rebecchi, senior vice president of marketing and business development. “It is very gratifying indeed when our combined commitment is so well received.”
